Yesterday, Lomography Singapore held its inaugural LomoMatrix event, May I LomoMatrix with You, Singapore? with much fanfare. A rather sizeable number of community members turned up, bringing along with them plastic bagfuls of props which include amongst others, umbrellas, masks, toilet paper, pom poms, and a rather large dumbbell (see photo above).

Disclaimer: I do not attempt to champion a particular type of camera for street photography, or any form of photography for that matter, since the camera is merely a tool for photo-taking and a bigger part of producing quality images lies in your mastery of that tool. A photo is just as good as the artist behind the camera.
During my photo walks, more often than not, I’ll encounter other photographers roaming the streets for some shoot therapy. Typically, my natural instinct is to lower my gaze to that piece of equipment he cradles in his hands. From my observations, a DSLR is standard and if it’s a film camera, it’s most likely a rangefinder. On one occasion, I passed by a girl with a Diana F+ but the only thing she seemed to do with it was let it hang pretty from her neck. Sure, Lomography cameras are continuously celebrated for their flamboyance and flair, but can they hold their own against the big boys in the streets? I believe they can. I’ve round up the Lomography cameras I know, and the following four are able street fighters in their own right.

An abundance of quirky, novelty furnishings can convince Lady Gaga to stay for tea or make visitors forget your dorm was previously a jail cell. If, like me, you fervently pin things to the “Shrine of Unobtainable Things” aka your wishlist on Pinterest, flood followers on tumblr with cute reblogs, envy talented craftsmen on Etsy and flip tables because this isn’t analogue, then perhaps you’ll enjoy a serving of cool at Kwerkee.
From the people that brought to you Reebonz (fellow men, ask your gf/mum/sister/Google if you have no idea what I’m talking about), Kwerkee is best described as a hodgepodge of newfangled contraptions put up for sale on the most eco-friendly storefront ever: the WWW. These sale periods, or events as they are called, typically last a minimum of 2 days or longer if more anti-mainstream fist pumps are observed. Yes, you read that right. The items here are anything but standard. Nary a run-of-the-mill product in sight. I’m impressed. Don’t take my word for it. Go and see for yourself.
My inner DC geek had to be suppressed at the sight of those Mimobots USB flash drives. I see what you’re trying to do there, Kwerkee. I dare say Hong Kong has some of the most fashionable citizens in the world. Perhaps its the cool 18deg post winter temperature that necessitates sartorial layering, but the Hong Kongers do it with simple ease as opposed to pretentious Singaporeans in December.
I digress.
This series of photos were part of an impromptu idea I had while on holiday in the aforementioned fashion forward city. I planted myself at the busiest traffic junction on Granville Road (arguably the most fashionable street in Tsim Sha Tsui), and shot distinctively well-dressed individuals before, during and ever after they crossed the road.
